Scout News and Notes
April 2018

It has been a busy (and fun!) couple of months for our Scouts.  At the end of February, the Boy Scouts participated in the council’s Klondike Derby.  This is usually their cold-weather campout, and includes a dog-sled race.  Even though the weather didn’t cooperate and there was no snow, the Scouts still had a weekend full of learning, competition and fellowship with other Troops.  The theme of the weekend was Mission: Klondike, and each station had a Mission: Impossible story behind it.  The Scouts used their wilderness survival, first aid, fire-building skills and lots of teamwork to complete each set of requirements.  This is the first year the Troop was able to successfully complete every station!

At the beginning of March, the Adrian College Robinson Planetarium welcomed the Cub Scouts for a special program.  The boys were treated to a trip through space, and learned a lot of fun facts about weather, seasons, constellations, planets and so much more.

March 10th was our annual Pinewood Derby at the church.  The car  designs were awesome (as always), and it was a great afternoon of fun and fellowship for our Scouting family.  There were several Cub Scouts competing for this first time this year, and the energy and excitement was amazing.  The Scout with this year’s fastest car is Kaiden Lidster –  Congratulations Kaiden!

The Boy Scouts have been choosing their merit badge classes for this year’s Summer Camp.  The Troop will again be spending a full week in July at Camp Berry in Findlay, OH.  The boys will be   earning merit badges in a variety of areas, including Swimming, Rifle, First Aid, Rowing, Climbing, Robotics, and many more.  There will be 5 Scouts crossing over from the Pack to the Troop and  attending Summer Camp for the first time.  Many of them are younger brothers of Scouts that have been to Camp Berry before, and they are eager to get their chance this year!

Scout Sunday is coming up on Sunday, April 15th.  The Pack and the Troop will be helping during the church service, serving as readers and ushers.  We will also be recognizing and awarding the 4 Scouts who have completed their religious emblem programs this year.  Thank you to Pastor McCarty for his time working with our Scouts on these programs, and to the congregation of Emmanuel for their  continued support of our Scouting programs.
