By now I am sure many of you have already heard about the Supreme Court vote of yesterday, which removes the legalization of abortion at the Federal level. This has been a very controversial topic in our nation for the last 50 years. Hostility has raged and anger has been vehemently expressed over this discussion about the rights of the mother and the rights of the unborn child.
As people of God, we are called by Him to boldly defend the sanctity of life at all stages, and to see each person (even those still in the womb) as one created in the image of God and redeemed by Christ. It is not a matter of whether you or I believe a particular person’s life is worth saving. What truly matters is what the Lord Almighty has proclaimed in His Word about the value of an individual’s life. And God sees each of our lives as something extremely precious.
God showed us just how special we are to Him by sending His son Jesus into our world to be our Savior and rescue us from the condemnation we deserve as sinners. Our life, and even more so eternal life, is highly valued by our Lord, and He showed us how much, by being willing to die a horrible death for you, me, and the unborn. His life for ours, was the trade off needed to secure our salvation. In Jesus, we are able to hear God’s words of sacrificial love!
Scripture says that long ago God spoke through Isaiah, Jeremiah, and many other prophets, in many ways. More recently, however, God has spoken to us through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 1:1-4 Jesus said in John 15:13, “Greater love has one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” But Jesus took this statement a step further as we read in Romans 5:6-8, For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one would scarcely die for a righteous person, though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die, but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Thank you for your heart for the Lord and for His truth concerning the sanctity of human life. “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love” (1 Corinthians 16:13–14, NKJV). We need to be vigilant and faithful as we defend life at every stage conception to the grave. This is a battle we cannot give up on, or give into, for we are servants of the Living God. And as we defend and serve others in love, we glorify Him and faithfully carry out the work He has commanded you and me to do. God bless! Pastor McCarty
