A Wife of Noble Character!

Writer's picture: Pastor McCartyPastor McCarty

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good not harm all the days of her life. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. Proverbs 31:10-12, 25-26

If you do not know it, March is Pastor’s Wife Appreciation Month. In general, people will think of recognizing and showing their appreciation for their Pastor during the month of October. But not many church members think about specifically honoring and recognizing the helpmate of their Pastor. Genesis 2:18 tells us, The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him”.

As a Pastor, in the LCMS, I can validate the fact that having a God honoring, God fearing wife is a true blessing. To have the encouragement, help, and support of a faithful Christian wife makes my vocational calling as a Pastor much more enjoyable and manageable. A Pastor like myself may be on call 24/7, but my wife is there to be able to take care of the home front, while I am out serving the Lord and the members of my congregation. “She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness”. Proverbs 31:27

Not only do I carry out Christ-centered ministry on behalf of the Lord, so does my wife. God has placed a love for serving Him and others, and she is passionate about the various ministries she is involved in. In reality, we have what I consider a joint calling/ministry to our congregation.

Pray for your Pastor’s wife, acknowledge the blessing she is to your Church family, and be a sister in Christ to her because she is making a considerable sacrifice sharing her husband with each of you. A wife of noble character does not seek glory, but “Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring praise at the city gate”. Proverbs 31:31 Pastor McCarty
