The title of this devotion comes from a portion of Holy Scripture written by the Apostle Paul to the male leaders of the church in Corinth. Even though these words were sent to these men in Corinth, I definitely believe they can and do apply to Christian men today. Why do I say this? God has called men, Christian men, to be the leaders of their household, and more importantly to be the spiritual leaders. Sad to say I am not confident that this is what is taking place in many Christian homes in today’s American culture.
Time and time again I see women coming to church by themselves. And what may concern me even more is mothers coming to church with their children without the father being with the family. This is not the way the Lord intended it to be. Do not get me wrong here, I am not saying the mother’s place in the home is not important. What I am saying is that the husband and father in a Christian home has the responsibility and duty to set the Godly standard of practice for his wife and children. This is not my idea gentlemen. No, this is what the Lord demands of us men.
The full passage that I referenced this devotional to is: “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
Husbands, fathers, and men of God are not to use their appointed position of authority or responsibility to lord over those they have been put in charge of. Instead, they are to show love, kindness, compassion and caring for the ones the Lord has placed under them. Men are to live as God-pleasing examples to their families, congregations, and communities as they witness for Christ and His Church in this world. This is something never to be taken lightly or shirked off fellas!
Can you imagine the positive impact that could be generated in this world, our country, our communities, and our homes if men stepped up and acted like the men God created them to be? And what a wonderful blessing this would be to the wives, mothers, and family members of these men. Wow! Men, let me be honest with you, wherever you are at in your calling as men, husbands, and fathers, it is never too late to carry out that which the Lord deems to be the right actions from His perspective and purpose. Blessings as you live to act like strong men of God!
