We are living in a time period in history when there is a great need for Pastors and Priests within our Christian churches. The demand is high and the number of men, and yes women in some denominations, who are going into Pastoral Ministry, is well below the necessary numbers needed to fill the pulpits. For many church bodies this has become a crisis of significant proportion.
Why is this such an important point for us to address within the Chrisitan community in 2023? Scripture clearly tells us in Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ.” It is in the preaching and teaching of the Word of God where the seed of faith is planted and grows. As the Word is taught and proclaimed, and the Holy Spirit opens the hearts and minds of people to hear the Word, the gift of saving faith blossoms, grows, and bears fruit in the life of the believer.
The Apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit writes, “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” Romans 10:13. Yet, Paul goes on to say, “How will they call on Him who have not believed? And how are to believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?” As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
The devil, the world and its destructive attractions, and our own sinful flesh are ramping up their attack on Christians and humanity as a whole. The assault and persecution against God, His Word, and us His people is at an all-time high. It is absolutely necessary for the Word of the Lord to be taught, preached, and shared within our churches, communities, and to the ends of the earth. Christ is the Good Shepherd and there is a great demand for those who would be called to be His under-shepherds. Let us be in prayer that their would be an increase of workers in the Kingdom, whose beautiful feet are being set on a path to faithfully serve the Lord as teachers and proclaimers of the “Good News”!
