Comfort during the storms of life!!

Comfort during the storms of life!!

Throughout our lives we face various setbacks and challenges, as we traverse through what the world has been called by some, “this veil of tears”. Yet, let us not be dismayed dear people of God for we have a loving Lord, who is with us every step of the way to help us press on to a better place, a place of peace and joy beyond measure which He has prepared for those who are His.

In the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah is the mouthpiece of the Lord as he conveys to the Israelites and us a very important message that should set our hearts and minds at ease as we battle on in this life. “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” Wow, what wonderful and soothing words those are for us His chosen children, who are dealing with the difficulties and struggles this earthly journey throws at you and me!

In Psalm 9 verses 9-10 David, a man who faced many difficulties and trials in his life speaks this comforting message, “The Lord is the stronghold of the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord have not forsaken those who seek You”. The Lord of heaven and earth and His servants do not tell us we will never have to deal with any disasters or obstacles in this world. In fact, He clearly says when you and I face these things He will be with us, and if need be, carry us.

Jesus said in the New Testament something very similar when He spoke these words, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart I have overcome the world.” Jesus has not just overcome the world, He has overcome sin, death, and the power of the devil. Dear friends in Christ, you and I need not fear about what we might face or be confronted by in the future. Jesus is our Rock and Fortress, the One who has promised to walk beside us each and every day of our lives. With confidence and trust in Him let us push forward knowing the Good Shepherd is watching over us and has promised to protect us. He gave His very life for us what else would He not do?

Be still my soul; the Lord is on your side; Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; Leave to your God to order and provide; In every change He faithful will remain. Be still my soul; your best, your heavenly Friend Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. Stanza 1 “Be Still, My Soul”.
