Dreams of being an heir!
Many years ago, I used to watch the television show “The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”. I was amazed at the way some people lived and the amount of money and resources they had access to. But what also caught my thoughts and attention had to do with those individuals, either children or others, who would one day be heirs to all the wealth and material possessions which were owned by these rich and famous people. Wow! Wouldn’t it be great to be a beneficiary of those luxuries that are only available to the extremely well-off members of our society? As the title of this devotions says, “Dreams of being an heir”!
Yet, as children of our heavenly Father, we truly are heirs. Heirs of something much more valuable than any worldly wealth or possession. Paul speaks of this idea of being an heir, an heir of all the blessings God has to offer us as His adopted sons and daughters.
1 I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, 2 but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. 3 In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. 4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. Galatians 4:1-7
As children of the Lord, we are of far greater worth to Him than all the silver or gold this world has to offer. We are His beloved and chosen ones and what is His is ours by right of inheritance. This is not something we have to dream about dear saints, it is a reality, and a promise God has made for you and me. And you know what, I may never make it on a show like the “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”, or ever be an heir of one of the elite people who do make it on the show, but that is O.K. because I am by far richer than I could ever imagine as God’s child. It doesn’t get any better than that my friends in Christ!
