What a true blessing it has been for me to donate blood over the last 40+ years. I believe I am nearing the 20-gallon mark. This has been something I have always felt was well worth the commitment of time, the donation of the blood, and the need to inspire other people to give their blood to help others. The truth of the matter is that we, as human beings with all our technology, have not been able to come up with a way to make artificial blood. If someone needs blood it either needs to be provided by themselves through banked blood, or another person who has given their blood by means of a donation. As Holy Scripture declares life is in the blood.
Even though I have tried to be a faithful donor over the years, I am greatly humbled by the sacrificial donation of blood that my Lord Jesus Christ gave to save me and all-mankind. It was in the pouring out of His blood on a cross that brought about the gift of life to all who would believe in Him as their Savior. Jesus set the ultimate standard for what it means to be a blood donor in this world. No greater offering has ever or will be ever made to help humanity.
The most impressive thing I have to convey, about the blood Jesus gave on our behalf, has to do with the idea that it does not just help us for the moment, or in an emergency situation to get us over the hump. No, the blood He provided has the power and ability to give us life unto eternity. Now that dear friends in Christ is some mighty potent fluid wouldn’t you say?
Ephesians 1:7 tells us, “In Him (Jesus) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us”. Yes, we have been saved, washed clean by the blood of Jesus which He willingly gave, so that we might live with Him in everlasting glory, as His dearly loved brothers and sisters.
From the hymn “Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness” verse 3: “Lord, I believe Thy precious blood, Which at the mercy seat of God, Pleads for the captives’ liberty, Was also shed in love for me”. Thank you, Jesus, for being willing to donate/give Your blood as the only way for me to enjoy eternal life with You. Pastor McCarty
