He will renew!

Recently my daughter gave me a tee shirt with my favorite verse on it. The verse I am so fond of is: “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles; They shall run and not grow weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

As I grow older, I am beginning to realize I cannot do some of the things I used to be able to do with the same zeal I once did them. The spirits willing, but many times the body is weak!

The message of the Lord spoken through the prophet Isaiah are words of hope when you and I are feeling worn down and less than vibrant. In fact, if we look at the verses previous to Isaiah 40:31, we get an even greater understanding of who God is and how He is capable of rejuvenating us. “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint and to him who has no might He increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted, but they who wait”………Isaiah 40:28-30

Yes, the Lord God Almighty, the omnipotent One (all-powerful), is at our access at all times and in all circumstances. He is waiting for us to call on Him for the strength we need to walk, or run, as His dearly loved children in this less than ideal world. At times the journey is difficult and the battle vicious, yet He has promised to give us what we need when we need it. His power is far greater than any weakness we might experience.

King David knew very well where His strength came from. “I waited for the Lord; He inclined His ear to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:1-3

In a time when things seem to be wearing us down, both physically and spiritually, we need to turn to the One, the only one, who can truly renew us in both body and soul. May you and I trust in the Lord and in doing so prepare ourselves to be lifted up as on an eagles wings!!!! Pastor McCarty
