In today’s world there are any number of resources, people, and philosophies that can be used to guide and direct our lives. In fact, if you go on-line, or to your local library, there are an unbelievable number of books written that are intended to be used as self-help materials. It seems as if everyone has just the right program, treatment, method, or personally promoted system, to help you and me get our life on track and get us moving in a more healthy and positive direction physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Many of these tools being provided to you and me can certainly be used to assist us in establishing a more wholesome and favorable lifestyle, especially when they are grounded in a Bible centered approach. But, I would venture to say quite a large number of them are not built around God’s Word and Christ Jesus!
God, through the Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Colossians, has something to say concerning what we as people of God should be careful about, when looking for guidance and direction in this world. “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in Him, who is the head of all rule and authority.” Colossians 2:6-10
If God created us in His image, and He made a way to save us by sending Jesus into our world, and He continues through His Holy Spirit to help us remain steadfast in our Christian walk of faith, do you think He knows what is best for our physically, emotional, and spiritual well-being? I would unequivocally say He does! And if that truly is the case, would it not be wise to spend more time reading the Bible (His personal guidebook), than to rely on the authority and directives of other materials that come from a secular/worldly centered mindset? I hope you would agree with such thinking.
If, we are in Christ and Christ is in us, and if God’s Word is our main source for how we are to live in this world, then we have a solid and sure foundation on which to build a healthy, abundant, and fulfilling life now and into eternity. So, dear saints, with that being said let us be wise and not be deceived, or held captive, by worldly thinking!!!!!!!!!! Pastor McCarty
