Short term memories!
Recently, I have been exposed to announcement about people who are either members of my congregation or related to our members, who have had some serious situations take place in their lives. Situations such as heart attacks where they coded and were brought back to life, motorcycle accidents resulting in serious medical concerns, and various cancer diagnosis. For many individuals such attention getting incidents can definitely rock an individual’s life and lifestyle. Yes, these are the types of things which can cause a person to really consider their mortality in this world of flesh and bones and their eternal destiny beyond it. And such setbacks can also move them to cry out to God for help
The sad part about many of these cases is the fact as a person comes out from under traumatic events like the ones mentioned above, and they get back up on their feet, a shift back into the worldly way of thinking before the experience begins to take place. The crisis is over, tragedy is averted, and we can now get back to living life again. And living life again may consist of a life without the Lord Jesus being a part of it.
David, Israel’s king touched on this kind of circumstance in Psalm 66, here is his words:
“For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried. You brought us into the net; you laid a crushing burden on our backs; you let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance. I will come into your house with burnt offerings; I will perform my vows to you, that which my lips uttered, and my mouth promised when I was in trouble.”
Do we acknowledge the miraculous work the Lord does in our lives every day, whether we are in trouble or not? It should be evident to see the goodness of the Lord, especially when He has pulled us out of a crisis situation and given us a renewed sense of life. Even more so, is to acknowledge the sacrificial work which Jesus performed to snatch you and me out of a sure and certain pronouncement of eternal condemnation.
The devil works hard to have us forget the saving work, both physical and spiritual, the Lord has carried out in our lives. Remember this important message always: We are alive in body and in spirit only by the grace of God, lest the devil tries to make us forget! Thank you God for all you have done and continue to do for us your children!!!!!! Pastor McCarty
