In a day and age when people worship sports athletes, movie stars, music entertainers, religious leaders, political figures, and the financially elite of our world, there is a real travesty taking place. The paying of homage to these so-called elite members of our society has caused people to place their allegiance in human beings, while at the same time shifting it away from the Lord Jesus Christ. For many individuals believing in, glorifying, and adoring such worldly figures is much more realistic than to give honor to a spiritual entity like Jesus.
When we look at what the most famous human being has ever done and place their laurels in comparison to what Jesus accomplished during His relatively short time on this earth there can be no possible comparison. Jesus came as God in the flesh and lived a perfect, yes sinless life, something no human being has ever done. He performed miracles of healing no one else could ever do. He changed lives in a manner no man would ever be able to pull off. And the ultimate act of His earthly existence was when He gave His life on the cross as the full payment for the sins of all mankind. In Jesus man was reconciled to God and salvation and eternal life came to all people in Him. No greater work had ever been done nor would anything greater ever be achieved.
So, if you are looking for an icon to give your devotion to and worship, I can think of no more worthy of a person than Jesus Christ, Son of God, and Savior of the world. He is the epitome of what a true and out of this world Icon is ultimately all about. In fact, He is one of kind for there is no other like Him. The Apostle Paul gives affirmation to this belief in Philippians 2:9-11: Therefore, God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and ever tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father. Amen and amen! Pastor McCarty
