What signs are you looking for?
For many people they will not believe something to be true until they see visible proof so to speak, a sign. And depending on what the subject is they are asked to place their belief in the sign/signs may need to be overly obvious. Accepting anything on blind faith is not generally how most individuals want to operate in our day and age.
But guess what folks, it is not just in our modern time period that such practices or ideas are carried out. Let us look to Holy Scripture and the Gospel of Matthew. “And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. He answered them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.' And in the morning, 'It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening. 'You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah."
These Jewish leaders did not believe Jesus was who He claimed He was “the Son of God, the Messiah”. To truly accept Him under such an unbelievable profession without real, hardcore proof from heaven itself was not going to happen! This request, by these self-righteous men, was rather absurd because Jesus had already healed many sick, lame, and blind people by the time this confrontation took place. What exactly were they seeking to see Jesus do which would be any more spectacular? In reality the hearts of the Pharisees and Sadducees were hardened to the point that it was not going to matter one bit what sign the Christ would do, for they were not willing to receive Him as their Lord and Savior under any pretense!
Jesus eventually provided what He declared to the unbelievers He would offer as a sign, the sign of Jonah. Jonah was the prophet, who spent three days in the belly of a big fish and then God brought him out and placed him safely on dry land. The Son of God went into the belly of the earth on Good Friday, and He rose from the dead/grave three days latter to live and reign for all eternity. No greater sign could be given to provide full proof and affirmation for the person of Christ. Yet, even as this great event played out the Jewish hierarchy still chose to disbelieve, and they worked hard to cover it up as a hoax.
Do you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior based on God’s Holy Word and the witness of those who walked with the Master 2000 years ago? Is that enough proof for you to place your trust in Jesus, Son of God, and Son of Man, who came in the flesh to give His life as a ransom for your life. I hope it is and I pray you are not like the Pharisees and Sadducees, who kept asking for signs and solid evidence based on what they were looking for in a Messiah, not for what Christ had to offer them as their Redeemer.
