Wrestling with God!
I do not know how many of you ever watch WWF (World Wrestling Federation) on the television. I have on occasion caught it on Friday night when I am channel surfacing to see what is on the tube. I generally do not take time out of my schedule to watch the crazy antics of this choreographed display of barbarianism. In fact, what I see this ridiculous production as is not wrestling but rassling. The reason I say that is because I myself competed in wrestling for many years in Junior High, High School, and College, and I can guarantee you what I was a part of was not the stuff you see on Friday Night Mania!!!!!!!
In the Bible there was an instance talked about that included a wrestling match, it is found in Genesis 32:24-26. And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, "Let me go, for the day has broken." But Jacob said, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."
I do not know about you folks, but I can tell you I do not think I would want to wrestle with God. He is the omnipotent One (all-powerful). And He has taken on bigger opponents then me and He took them to the cleaners rather easily. Scripture declares, there is no one like Almighty God, nothing can stand up against Him. If Scripture says it, who am I to think otherwise.
Yet, I believe we do wrestle with God, it happens when our will wrestles with His will. When we believe we can do something to assist with our salvation instead of fully trusting in what Jesus has completed and accomplished for us by His life, death, and resurrection. We might even wrestle with the Lord, as we try to use His Holy Word in ways that will help us justify what we are doing as sinners. Twisting, bending, and grappling with the very Word of God, for the distinct purpose of getting it to concede to our thinking and understanding.
Yes, my dear friends, there is no doubt whatsoever, God is the Champion, He is our Champion in Christ Jesus. For Jesus wrestled with sin, death, and the power of the devil and utterly destroyed them breaking their stronghold on mankind. He is the reigning King of not only the ring, but of everything in heaven and under the heavens. And because He claims the final victory, we as His followers share in that victory which leads to life eternal.
You can have WWF to enjoy, but I would rather have WJDFM (What Jesus Did For Me). I can promise you one is truly fake, and one is truly faith! Pastor McCarty
